Seems like Discworld is the perfect reason for a Kindle, as they are all available for it.

Don't be put off mate. I got given the 25th book The Truth as a gift one year and that's where I started. I promptly went back to #1 and worked my way through them but as Regis says, they're very accessible. Character do recurr so starting near the beginning helps but isn't necessary.

I've been looking forward to this and "I Shall Wear Midnight" for a while.

On the Hugo things, everyone should go give some love to Jim Butchers "Welcome to the Jungle" graphic novel.

Most of the books are stand-alone (I guess the only exception is the first two), meaning you can pickup any and begin there. Some are more entertaining if you have read about characters before, but the accessibility is pretty high compared to other "series" (it's more like novels taken place in the same world/city).

I have never read any of the Discworld books. I've been meaning to start, but 37 is pretty daunting.

I'm also not too impressed with the Hugo list this year. None of those books interest me much.
